Summer Camps at LCM

 

LCM is rolling Full STEAM ahead! During May and June summer camps, campers will explore all things STEAM—science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics—through fun, hands-on experiments and open-ended exploration.

During fun July camps, campers continue to make memories with us!

LCM Summer Camp is held daily from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with drop-off available from 8:45 a.m. until 9 a.m.  The weekly camp fee is $225/week for LCM Members and $250/week for non-members.  

Before Care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. for an additional $40/week, and After Care from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $75/week. Before and After Care can be purchased together for $100/week. 

Camps are filled on a first come, first served basis with limited availability.

Our cancellation policy is as follows:  You may receive a full refund if you cancel 30 days before your first day of camp. If you cancel 2 weeks before the first day of camp, you will receive a 50% refund. If your cancellation occurs less than two weeks prior to the start date of camp, no refund is given.

Explore the wonders of science through crazy, hands-on experiments every day. Try out the scientific method as you predict and test your hypotheses with ooey-gooey and bubbly mixtures, build your own robot, and create a flying machine! *No camp Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. Adjusted rate for this camp: $180/ 4 days of camp for LCM Members, $200/ 4 days of camp for Non-Members.

Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Stretch your imagination with fun design challenges. From marble runs and marshmallow sculptures, to LEGO engineering, origami, and fort building, the possibilities of what you can create are endless!

What does "imagination" look like? What do you think YOUR imagination would look like if you could see it? Use recycled materials to create imagination collages; put together loose parts to make a galaxy; design a collaborative "fantasy art" scene. Explore surrealism and post-modernism influences to inspire the creation of self-portraits and sculptures. The artist will exhibit one of his or her pieces for an "Imaginarium Art" display for parents and caregivers on Friday, June 7th

Monday June 10
Travel back to a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth! Be a paleontologist and search for dinosaur bones in your very own fossil dig. Go on a dino treasure hunt adventure and explore amazing facts about these prehistoric creatures!

Monday June 17
Who lives in the Louisiana wetlands? Design your own safe habitat for a mammal, reptile, or bird. Learn about what our ecosystem needs to stay healthy, and make your own pledge for what you can do to preserve the wetlands. Get ready to “go green” and have lots of fun! *Please note that Wetlands & Wildlife Camp and Art Trek Camp are the same week.*

Monday June 17
Beyond the Blue Doors: Observing, Exploring, and Creating Art Inspired by our Julia Street exhibits Campers will learn about the artistry behind many of LCM’s iconic exhibit pieces. They will be able to create recycled art trees; larger than life eyes; and miniature replicas of shotgun houses and barges. To hone their observation and drawing skills, they also will sketch “still life” portraits of exhibits. Campers will display their final pieces in an atrium gallery show at the museum on the final day of camp. *Please note that Wetlands & Wildlife Camp and Art Trek Camp are the same week.*

Monday June 24
Travel the universe and learn about stars, planets, and other phenomena–all without leaving the museum! Learn how telescopes were invented by Galileo and create your own constellation. Crawl into our inflatable Star Lab for a show all about astronomy, launch your own balloon rocket, and crash a meteoroid to test its crater size. **Please note that Space Explorers Camp and Art Trek Camp II are the same week**

Explore the five senses with all things culinary. Prepare and taste your own edible creations, make your own recipe book, and enjoy food themed crafts and songs. What does it take to perform in the biggest show on earth? Try your hand at simple magic tricks, juggling, balloon making, and theater games. Build your balance and acrobatic skills while also clowning around. Families are welcome to attend our Big Top Showcase in the on Friday, featuring our talented campers!

Monday July 15
Learn about famous treasures of ancient civilizations and become a treasure hunter yourself! Discover how archaeologists search and care for relics. Make your own treasure chest and design your own treasure map. Work as a team and build problem-solving skills as your search for hidden clues throughout the museum to find our own lost artifacts!
